This is a clumsy approach to scripting screen rotation — I may have to learn Cocoa to do it right. I've got a couple ideas to make It a bit better, but for a general display rotation utility, this approach is probably  a dead end. Fortunately, most…

I've used Daniel Griscom's smsutil on a 2.13GHz mid-2009 MacBook, and it works. However, as a slight anomaly, it reverses the x and z axes. It appears that even with User Interface scripting, Applescript seems unable to produce the command, option…

The AMSTracker utility that I used to get the above data is, it seems, designed for a different sudden motion sensor, one in a Powerbook. Fortunately, I found Daniel Griscom's Suitable Systems site where he provides a Mac-based seismic sensor, a too…

Modbooks Just Got a Lot Cheaper

Prices on Modbooks and Modservice have been reduced substantially at a number of different websites.

Update: Today, Nov 5, Axiotron announced the new pricing for Modbooks that has been in effect for the last week. The new manufacturer's suggested retail price for Modservice is $899. In addition, there is $200 holiday discount that will last until December 31.

Update: Today, Dec 30, Axiotron has extended its existing holiday discount prices — $1649 for a standard Modbook and $699 for Modservice — until March 1, 2010.

The Modbook Pro Ship Date Delayed Another Six Months

Axiotron announced that the Modbook Pros will shlp “at the end of the second quarter of 2010.” This is a bit disappointing but not completely unexpected. As suggested in a forum post, the rule of thumb is: start with the first announced ship date and add a year.

The iPad: Hell, It Isn't Even As Good As a Modbook.

So I’ve been listening to the enormous sigh of disappointment and the large scale gnashing of teeth, and I am puzzled. In response to Apple’s announcement of their new iPad, the internet bloggers and pundits seem, well, angry. Indeed, the response seems just as nasty as the internet’s response to the announcement of the iPod. I guess they were expecting something different. I can’t imagine why.

Deep Discounts for Deep Doo-doo

I can’t say I’m too surprised by the recently reduced pricing on Modbooks. The rather timid artist and academic discounts of last month got me thinking: events have put Axiotron in a bit of a spot.

Firstly, the determined rumors of an Apple tablet early next year have, judging from the comments I’ve heard, caused many people to put off any Modbook purchase until they see what Apple does. Not that this makes any sense. The Apple tablet, if it does come to pass, will be interesting, bea

Pen Gestures on the Modbook Part Two

If the screencast in my last blog posting on my Modbook’s pen gesture setup gave you a chance to kick the tires and take a brief test drive, this posting provides you with a look under the hood. While everyone uses computers differently, a detailed look at someone else’s approach is often a good jumping off point for your own. In any event, this post will demonstrate the versatility and power of Quicksilver’s

Pen Gestures on the Modbook

I’d been meaning to write a blog post on how much fun it is to use a Modbook with Quicksilver and the Abracadabra pen gestures plug-in installed. After I got a ways into it, I realized how inadequate my words were to explain how it works or how cool it is, so I made a screen cast instead. I hope you enjoy it.

On Kopernicus Implementation

Axiontron’s new Quickscript Handwriting recognition application comes with a Macro service called Kopernikus, which allows the user to run an AppleScript or an Automator action after handwriting a Keyword. The idea is that if one wants to quit an application, one can handwrite “quit,” and the frontmost app will quit. Indeed, Quickscript comes with just such a quit Apple

Welcome to The Modbookish

The Modbookish is an attempt to bring back the active, fun online community of Modbook users and waiting-to-be Modbook Users that existed in the spring of 2008. A few remnants of that site still exists. With luck, the community here will be as vibrant as that one once was.

So, come in, take off your shoes – we are fully carpeted – and have a look around.

If you have any questions about the Modbookish community, start a thread in the Community/Forum Questions and Suggestions section of the Forum or email your friendly moderator.
